Lead Abatement of Lighthouse Tower on Island In Georgian Bay

Service Type:Marine, Hazardous Materials Abatement, Rebuild, Soil and Groundwater Remediation
Client:Governmental Agency
Location:Georgian Bay, Ontario

Tri-Phase was retained by the Federal Government for lead abatement of one of their lighthouse towers located on an island in Georgian Bay. The scope of work included the abatement of lead-containing materials of the 86-foot-tall lighthouse. Lead-containing materials including paint were removed from the concrete foundation assemblies, the metal-frame tower structure and the upper lighthouse exterior. Once the lead-based paint was removed, Tri-Phase repainted the lighthouse structure to match the original color of the lighthouse. Additionally, any debris and soil that was contaminated was removed and disposed of according to provincial regulations. An extensive scaffolding frame around the lighthouse was set up in order to execute the lead abatement of the lighthouse tower.

One challenge to this job was the transport of personnel and equipment to the island over water. Fortunately, Tri-Phase has a marine division that is able to access remote water locations. Tri-Phase was able to utilize our own boats, barges as well as utilize our experienced and qualified workers to transport personnel and equipment to and from the job site as necessary. This provides a competitive advantage to choosing Tri-Phase Group as it sets us apart from our competitors.
