Remediation of PCB-Impacted Soil at Industrial Facility in Guelph

Service Type: Soil and Groundwater Remediation, PCB Clean-Up
Client: Industrial
Location:
Guelph, Ontario

Tri-Phase was retained to remediate the property with a 100,000 square foot plant on 100 acres, which had been heavily contaminated with PCBs. The plant was used to produce transformers and the main objective was to maintain contamination on-site and ensure compliance with regulatory authorities.

The work included the excavation, solidification and disposal of over 30,000 tones of PCB-contaminated soil/sludge as well as the decommissioning of the old oil interceptor pond and construction of a new two-stage oil interceptor/ retention pond.  Hydrocarbon and PCB-contaminated groundwater was controlled and treated on-site (over 8 million liters).  Other work included the clean-up and decontamination of PCB-contaminated tankers using confined space entry teams, sewer flushing and lining as well as power washing.

A major component of the work also included the decommissioning of the existing groundwater recovery and treatment plant and design/build of the new treatment plant with a capacity of 500,000 liters/day.
