Asbestos Abatement of an Institution’s Underground Tunnels

Tri-Phase was retained to provide asbestos abatement and re-insulation services of their system across the entire campus.  The areas to be remediated include four large boilers with all associated tanks, condensers, breaches, and pipes, in addition to remediating and re-insulating over 4,000 fittings of all sizes that exist in the 3.5 km of tunnels running under the campus grounds.

Working under the direction of the owner’s consultant, Tri-Phase continues to perform the work under this contract with abnormal site conditions. For example, mechanical insulation on high temperature steam lines and boilers have to be removed and replaced while the lines are active and cannot be shut down.

Another challenge of this project is that most work must be completed ahead and/or in coordination with the construction activities taking place on campus.

Tri-Phase staff are taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of its employees and the owner’s employees, as well as the general public.
