Tri-Phase was retained by a governmental agency to provide hazardous materials abatement, structural demolition, geo-environmental drilling, soil remediation, landscaping and construction services for a former police station in Brampton, Ontario. The scope of work was to demolish the police station and turn it into a functional parking lot. Tri-Phase retained all required permits and approvals prior to the start of work. This included obtaining the required demolition permit and tree permits. Tri-Phase also applied for all disconnection services such as hydro and gas with the relevant authorities. The scope of work included the designated substances abatement of asbestos-containing materials including but not limited to insulation and piping as well as PCB containing caulking within the building.
Once the hazardous materials were abated, Tri-Phase then performed interior demolition services which included removing non-concrete and steel materials such as ceiling tiles, drywall and doors. Next, Tri-Phase completed the structural demolition of the building of approximately 30,000 square feet and separated the garbage, concrete, and steel as the demolition took place. Tri-Phase removed the roof, electrical and mechanical components, footings and foundations of the building.
During the demolition process of the building, it was suspected that there was contamination of the soils on site once the foundations were removed. Therefore, Tri-Phase provided geo-environmental drilling services on multiple spots of the site to determine if those areas were contaminated. This drilling was completed in-house with our own drill rigs and licensed well technicians. As a result of the contamination studies, it was found that there was contamination, thus, Tri-Phase provided contaminated soil removal.
As part of the planned work, Tri-Phase dug trenches and then supplied and installed a stormwater system which consisted of MC-3500 stormwater chambers, continuous deflective separator units, manholes and catch basins. Electrical trenches were also installed by Tri-Phase to run electrical lines for the new light posts, security gate and surveillance system. Tri-Phase also had to provide site grading services for surface drainage. Once the subgrade work was completed, Tri-Phase backfilled the area with Granular B and compacted it to meet client specifications. The next phase involved construction services, such as asphalt installation, markings, and signage for the new parking lot, as well as the installation of the surveillance system and an electric gate with access readers. The final phase of the project included landscaping, which featured the installation of new grass and the planting of various trees and bushes.
